Description
Pinus mugo ‘Carstens Wintergold’ is a slow growing dwarf mountain pine. This makes it ideal for cloud / niwaki pruning, as little maintenance is needed to keep the plant in excellent shape and condition. The short needles make the foliage pads look dense and rounded. Needles are green in spring and summer but turn a brilliant golden-yellow colour in the winter. This adds a real vibrancy to any garden. ‘Carstens Wintergold’ was awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit, this is a prestigious award which shows the plants suitability for growing in the UK.
Typically the trees we stock are around 25 years old and have been nurtured into authentic cloud trees by expert growers. These plants are fully hardy, as they have been grown in Northern Europe. They can be kept in their pots, or planted out into the garden. Pinus mugo ‘Carstens Wintergold’ will grow in most soil types, but for best result, the ground should be free draining. Can be grown in coastal environments and requires no watering during the winter and only a little in a very dry summer.
