Ophiopogon Nigrescens

Category:

Description

Ophiopogon planiscapus ‘Nigrescens’, also known as mondo grass, is a unique and interesting small evergreen plant. The plant forms dense tufts of grass-like leaves. New growth is purple-green quickly changing to jet black. Occasionally in summer, they can produce small bell-shaped pale flowers followed by dark fruit.

Ophiopogon has the best effect when planted in groups. Plant approx 30cm apart so that when they spread they do not compete for space with each other and create the effect that they are one large plant. Due to their low growing habit, they are great as ground cover planting or used as undercover planting beneath a tall Japanese Acer.
