Our Rankei Japanese stone lantern, hand carved from natural silver grey granite in 6 pieces, features a distinctive curved column which is off-set from the base stone. Rankei lanterns are from the Yukimi-doro family as they have a curved pedestal. The base stone is recessed to hold the column securely and it should be partially buried in the ground for added stability.
In Japan, Rankei lanterns are traditionally positioned on the banks of a pond. The arched column of the Rankei rises out of the bank and allows the body of the lantern to overhang the water. This gives not only a wonderful reflection in the water, but also a link between water and land.
The lantern is drilled to accept a low voltage light that we offer for an additional £19.
The Rankei lantern is available in 2 sizes and are referred to by lid diameter.
This lantern comes in 6 separate pieces. You can leave the pieces sitting freely on top of each other. If you live in a particularly windy area or you are worried about children or animals knocking into the lantern you can stick the pieces together using a clear, outdoor adhesive such as Stixall.
If you prefer a more rustic feel to your ornament, then we would recommend the Rankei Nara style.
