Japanese Garden in Chiswick, London.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

  • Dimensions:
  • Build time: 6 weeks

This Japanese garden was built at a custom designed and built studio in Chiswick. The garden constructions started as the builders finished. We created a black basalt driveway and paths which lead through the garden. The dark paving shrinks into the distance and allows the planting to stand out. These are flanked by specimen acres, under planted with sedum as ground cover. We introduced a small stream, which you cross whilst walking through the garden. This running water adds an element of tranquility to the garden.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

  • Dimensions: 1.8m x 3m – 5.4 m2
  • Build time: 1 week

The brief from our client was to introduce the sound of running water, create a seating area and to dress a brick wall in a small courtyard garden in Kensington. We were asked to introduce the sound of running water, create a seating area and to dress the end brick wall in an oriental style.

This garden illustrates what can be achieved in the smallest of spaces and features one of the most traditional of all Japanese gardens; a Tetsu bachi and Oribe lantern with evergreen Nandina domestica, some granite stepping stones and silver grey gravel. We dressed the brick wall using split bamboo canes in an attractive pattern to form an oriental backdrop to the garden.  The granite bench is not shown in these images.
