Description

Inspired by the traditional Japanese design principle Shin-Gyō-Sō, this concept reflects three levels of formality — formal (Shin), semi-formal (Gyō), and informal (Sō) — a philosophy often applied to Japanese gardens and pathways.

The Gyō, or semi-formal style, captures a balance between structure and natural expression. When applied to garden pathways, it embraces subtle irregularity, a meandering form that reflects nature while maintaining an underlying sense of order.

Our slate pieces, when used in combination, create an attractive nobedan style pathway. Each piece is either 5cm or 10cm in width, with lengths varying between 11cm – 50cm enabling you to create a beautiful, meandering path with a subtle sense of movement and harmony.

For a more formal appearance, the edges of the pathway can be laid straight, while an irregular pattern evokes a more natural, relaxed design — as shown in our product images.

Our Gyō-style pathway is supplied by m² (calculated with no gaps). The gap between the pavers can be minimal, or larger to incorporate ground cover plants or small cobbles between them.
