The Oribe Japanese stone lantern, hand carved from natural silver grey granite in 5 pieces, is one of the most popular style of oriental lanterns.
These attractive Japanese stone lanterns have a simple form with carved inscription on the column.
Approx. 100 mm of the column is buried in the ground for stability, and the dimensions shown below are measured from the ground level.
The Oribe lantern was designed specifically for garden use by a well known tea master called Futura Oribe (1544-1615) and was intended to be used in Japanese water basin arrangements.
Choose the size of lantern with care to match the proportions of the water basin used.
For example, a 76 cm high Oribe would be in the correct proportion for a 33 cm ⌀ water basin, whilst a 96 cm high Oribe would be used with a 45 cm ⌀ water bowl.
The lantern is drilled to accept a low voltage Lantern Light that we offer for an additional £19.
Oribe lanterns – ikekomi gata – are available in 4 heights and offer excellent value for money.
This lantern comes in 5 separate pieces. You can leave the pieces sitting freely on top of each other. If you live in a particularly windy area or you are worried about children or animals knocking into the lantern you can stick the pieces together using a clear, outdoor adhesive such as Stixall.
